Saturday, May 2nd (11a-3p) Eyre Park

Join Youth Development United, Widener University, the City of Chester, Chester Upland School District, and other community partners as we celebrate the history of Chester sports as a launchpad for future generations!

Do you have a story to tell or athlete/coach to highlight? Fill out this form by Friday, April 3rd to have information included in the event.

Storybook walk

While this will not be a traditional storybook walk with a children’s book, the initiative will be comprised of 10 displays highlighting the accomplishments of teams, athletes, coaches and administrators who have played a part in Chester’s vast sports history beginning in the late 1800s. Join us as we celebrate these accomplishments, providing interactive opportunities for participants to learn about the past, try new sports for the first time, participate in a scavenger hunt and be given an opportunity to win various prizes - bikes, sports equipment, sports apparel, etc.

Currently 50 undergraduate Widener University students are conducting research on Chester’s sports history along with interviews from community members, historians, coaches and athletes.

Sports clinics

At each sport display there will be interactive games where participants will have an opportunity to test their skills and athleticism - soccer, football, baseball/softball, running, etc.

We will also be hosting sports clinics throughout the day, providing sport-specific instruction for all youth in attendance.

Tentative Clinic Schedule:

11:30am - 12:15pm (soccer)

12:15pm - 1:00pm (flag football)

1:00pm - 1:45pm (golf)

1:45pm - 2:30pm (baseball/softball)
