Chester Organizations Spotlighted on Funders Tour

Our organization was honored to be selected among those spotlighted on the Chester Funders Tour.

Frances Sheehan of The Foundation for Delaware County and Jennifer Bohnenberger of the Independence Foundation organized this event to showcase Chester organizations working hard for the community.

Three panel discussions discussed critical issues in Chester: Economic and Housing Development, Challenges Facing Youth-Serving Organizations and Violence Prevention Efforts.

Jeannine Anckaitis, Executive Director of Youth Development United and Chester Upland Youth Soccer, gratefully shared the dais in the second session with community heroes Donna Northern of Chester Boys and Girls Club, Barron Lacy of 9th Street Youth and Community Center and Tara Jones of Chester Cultural Arts and Technology Center.

We took turns briefly presenting on our organizations’ offerings and missions. Then, we alerted our generous audience to the challenges of staffing and maintaining funding for our work.

Many thoughtful questions were raised, and we did our best to paint a full picture of the scenario while inviting all to drop into our facilities and participate in our events to get a first-hand look.

A number of audience members approached each of us at the conclusion of the event, eager to help.

Afterward, Frances M. Sheehan, President of The Foundation for Delaware County, wrote us: “ I can’t thank you all enough for your participation on our panel, and for your ability to convey the opportunity for funders to engage here given that so many of us are collaborating for kids in so many different ways.”

Likewise, we all were incredibly appreciative of the chance to present to the event’s impressive audience, and of the interest shown in our efforts.
