Youth Development United’s Run/Walk Clubs

In the Fall of 2022, Youth Development United relaunched the Eddystone Elementary School’s run/walk club, which was originally founded in the spring of 2014 and had been on hiatus due to lack of funding.

The 2022 Eddystone Run/Walk Club consists of 45 3rd, 4th and 5th graders, and meets every Friday morning of eight-week fall and spring seasons. The children are given snacks and a team t-shirt, as well as transportation and registration for local run/walk events. If anyone requires financial support to purchase appropriate running shoes, Youth Development United also meets that need.

"Each year, our students have had the opportunity to learn about running in a way that challenges them to set goals, work hard, and achieve success. We are proud of our athletes who have trusted us to try something new," said co-founder and Eddystone teacher Crystal Brooks.

"Crystal and I have always had a passion for health and wellness that we wanted to instill in our students. We developed the Eddystone Run/Walk Club in order to promote physical fitness, discipline, and pride," explained co-founder and Eddystone Guidance Counselor Eva Signor.

The Eddystone Run/Walk Club has a proud tradition of bringing the trophy home from the Ridley Educational Foundation’s annual 5k. They were successful once again at REF’s Halloween 5K Run in October 2022 and had a great showing at Laura’s Children’s Foundation “1 Mile and More” event at Naylor’s Run Park in Upper Darby in May 2023.

Youth Development United is also in the process of developing a running club at Edgmont Scholars Academy, formerly known as the Widener Partnership Charter School.
