Youth Development United Launches Endowment

To ensure continuity for our efforts to give inspiring extracurricular opportunities to under-served children, Youth Development United has opened an endowment fund through The Foundation for Delaware County.

At the Foundation for Delaware County’s 5th anniversary celebration, President Frances M. Sheehan announced the organizations that have created endowments with them, including ours, and then long-term CUYS supporter Reb Speare was presented the “Door-Opener” Award for his visionary contributions to the Foundation.

The Foundation’s website explains: “Endowment funds provide nonprofits with a lasting, reliable source of support. A healthy and vibrant charitable sector is critical to keeping our community strong.”

Credit card contributions can be made here; checks should be made out to:

Want to learn more about endowments?

According to the National Council of Nonprofits, “Endowments may generally be described as assets set aside to grow over time as a result of income earned from interest on the underlying invested funds. Creating an endowment may be an important strategy to set aside funds for the future, and can be a hallmark of financial sustainability.”

Why give to an endowment?

  • Endowment funds are invested for long-term growth and eventually give back more than is put into them. In this way, a gift made today will give back forever.

  • Giving to our endowment fund ensures that we will have income to support our mission in the long term.

  • Historically, a gift to an endowment will give back its full value within 13 years, and then continue to give even more.

  • A gift to an endowment will typically double in value in 14 years.

Anyone wishing to support our work outside of the endowment is encouraged to take steps toward donating time or money here.

On behalf of the children we serve, thank you for your support!
