5th Grade Field Trip to Dick's Sporting Goods
Recently, over 100 fifth-grade students from Stetser Elementary, Edgmont Scholars Academy, and Main Street Elementary enjoyed a Field Trip to the Dick’s Sporting Goods House of Sport in Wilmington, DE. In addition to the indoor climbing wall, golf simulators, and batting cages, the Dick’s Sporting Goods staff set up an outdoor turf field in the parking lot, a basketball court, volleyball, and badminton, along with various yard games that kept the students engaged throughout the day-long trip. Lunch and Gatorade were provided, and the students and staff left exhausted but with smiles on their faces.
This trip was designed to recognize students’ hard work throughout the school year while also encouraging interest in the inaugural 2026 cohort of the YDU Middle School Bridge and Achievement Program.
The program was developed following 18 months of community input gathered during our strategic planning process. It will provide students with ongoing academic support, mentorship, and guidance as they transition from elementary to middle school, helping them stay on track for high school graduation. Through targeted resources and personalized support, the program aims to ease both the academic and social aspects of this transition, fostering student success and positive long-term outcomes.
